Line of Events
Charles, a retiree, gets a new chance at life when he answers an ad for a private investigator and becomes a mole in an undercover investigation at a nursing home. Michael Schur was inspired to create A Man On the Inside after watching the Chilean documentary The Mole Agent. He says: The documentary The Mole Agent is powerful because it makes people feel something remarkably similar regardless of age, ethnicity or gender, and I would describe that feeling in a very simplistic way: “I have to call my mom.” In our show, we tried to do something similar with the tone: Basically, does our show contribute to that feeling of wanting to call our moms? Ted Danson, about 76, plays Charles, about 76, a retired engineering professor living in San Francisco.
As a result, it is very clean and more enjoyable
He is also a producer on the series, which stands out from others by avoiding the all-too-common dialogue and vulgar language. In the story, his wife died probably a year ago from the effects of Alzheimer’s. He is healthy, but perhaps bored with his daily routine. He has a habit of reading magazines and newspapers and often cuts out interesting ones to send to his married daughter in Sacramento.
Charles will be the key
One day, through a cutout, he sees a small, short ad. Looking for someone between the ages of 75 and 85 for a specific job. This leads him to a private detective hired by a man whose mother lives in an exclusive retirement home in San Francisco, some valuable jewelry has been stolen from him, and the son wants the thief caught. So he is hired to check the place out, observe and report as the person who will reveal what is going on.
My wife and I enjoyed watching it streaming
Ted Danson is simply perfect in this role, which he plays with a lot of humor. It quickly becomes less about who the thief was and more about the relationships. The cast of characters is played by a group of great actors, many of them old favorites we have come to know over the last 50 years. After watching the first three episodes in one evening, we watched the last five episodes in one sitting after our usual Saturday night steak and wine dinner.
One of the more enjoyable we’ve ever watched
The ending sets the stage for a sequel, I hope they make one.
